ACSAD Research Station in Deir el-Hajar
Location and climate:
The station is located in the Al-Ghazlaniyah area in the Rural Damascus, 30 km southeast of the city of Damascus, in the fourth stability zone, where the average rainfall is 100-125 mm annually. It was established in 2021. Its total area is about 3 hectares. Its soil is loamy clay, brown, and dry.
Objective:
Establishing genetic assembly for fruit trees, olives, and palms, and studying pastoral plants.
Station tasks:
– Studying the success of varieties of fruit trees in dry areas (the margins of the desert – Albadeya ).
– Planting tissue palm seedlings.
– Establishing genetic assembly for pasture plants.
– Propagating and preserving seeds of the most important pastoral plants.
– Studying the adaptation of smooth cactus in dry environments.
– Studies on conservation agriculture.
