ACSAD & ICARDA …….UPCOMING COOPERATION

The Director-General of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dryland (ACSAD), Dr. Nasr Eddin Al Obaid, discussed with Dr. Majd Jamal, Assistant Director-General of the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA), the issues of cooperation between the two sides and ways to enhancing and developing it

 

During the meeting, held on 9/7/2020, at the headquarters of ACSAD Organization in Damascus, the two sides discussed how to open new horizons for cooperation in various fields, especially in the fields of developing the cereal crops varieties(wheat& barley) that are improved and drought-tolerant, disease-resistant), pasture, rehabilitation degraded land, and water resources management in the arid and semi-arid regions.

Dr. Al-Obaid affirmed that the Arab Center (ACSAD) keens to strengthen scientific and technical cooperation with ICARDA, to maximize the benefit from scientific progress and vital technologies, apply the sound management of natural resources, preserve the environment, and develop the efficiency of Arab technical cadres in general, and in particular the beloved Syrians Arab.

 

Dr. Al-Obaid pointed to proud Syria`s embrace of the headquarters of ACSAD Organization and the ICARDA Center, referring to the moral, material and logistical support provided by Syria to both of them, emphasizing on the reciprocation to beloved Syria is by offering the compendium of their experiences to the Syrian authorities concerned and their young scientific-technical cadres.

Dr. Jamal, on his behalf and in the name of the staff at ICARDA, congratulated Dr. Nasr Eddin Al-Obeid for assuming his new position as Director-General of the Organization of ACSAD, wishing him success, and promising that the next stage will witness more cooperation and coordination in various fields of interest to both sides.

He pointed that this meeting was in line with the desire of both parties to cooperate and coordinate their relations, develop ties, exchange experiences and information, and build capabilities and human cadres in various common areas, to achieve development in the Syrian and Arab agricultural sector.
