Iraqi Minister of Environment and Director General of ACSAD / talks.
His excellency the Iraqi minister of Environment, Dr. Jassim Abdulaziz Hammadi discussed with his excellency Dr. Nasr El-Din El-Obeid, Director-General of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry lands “ACSAD” the joint cooperation relations between the two sides and ways to enhance and develop them in various fields especially the areas of cooperation that the Arab Center can offer its expertise Distinctive.
They also discussed during their meeting at ACSAD headquarters today, the issues of climate change, rainwater harvesting conversation agriculture, combating desertification limiting land degradation, combating encroachment of sand dunes, biogas and other issues of concern to both sides, and logistical preparations for holding an Arab national conference at the level of Arab ministers of agriculture, water and environment, which was approved by the ACSAD General Assembly recently to discuss food and water security in the Arab region and ways to achieve them, and to prepare for Cop27 climate summit, which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh – Arab republic of Egypt during the month of December of this year, in addition to implementing joint projects to adapt to climate changes and reduce their negative effects on the sectors of agriculture, water, environment and greenhouse gas emissions.
At the beginning of the meeting Dr. Al-Obaid gave a brief presentation on the center’s plans and programs to support the efforts of Arab countries in sustainable Arab development especially in the republic of Iraq. Then the two sides conducted a comprehensive evaluation of joint activities and projects, assuring His Excellency the minister of ACSAD’s permanent readiness to put all his capabilities and experiences are in the service of the programs and projects of the Iraqi Ministry of Environment, to meet its ambitions and future plans for the development of the environmental and agricultural sector in the republic of Iraq.
For his part, the Minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts of ACSAD and its staff, and hoped that this meeting would contribute to advancing the cooperation relations between the Ministry and ACSAD to the best levels, praising the important role played by ACSAD in achieving Arab food and water security, and the level it has achieved in its scientific and practical performance, especially In the recent period and the high confidence it has gained and the position it has reached in all the fields of its work.
At the end of the meeting the Minister and his accompanying delegation listened to presentation by the directors of the departments of water resources, plants, lands and water uses, livestock, and projects to improve livelihoods. He expressed his admiration for the modern technologies that these laboratories contain.
