The ACSAD’s Director-General and the FAO’s Assistant Director-General-Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa / Discussions

     The Director-General of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Drylands “ACSAD”, His Excellency, Dr Naser Edin Obeid and the FAO’s Assistant Director-General – Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa, Dr Abdulhakeem Al-Waer discussed the cooperation affairs between both sides and the ways to enhance them in various areas.

     During the meeting with Dr Al-Waer today, at ACSAD’s headquarters, His Excellency, Dr Obeid gave a presentation on ACSAD Organization and its work fields in Syria and the Arab countries, the cooperation with other organisations and regional and international institutions, the most critical activities in the area of plant production, livestock development, combat desertification, restore degraded lands, elicit new varieties from Wheat and Barley, water resources management and water harvesting, that would achieve SDGs, confirming that this meeting will contribute to upgrading the cooperation between FAO and ACSAD to the best levels.  

     He also reviewed the long-standing cooperation between ACSAD organisation and FAO embodied through joint projects, workshops, successful training courses, and field programs, which their economic impacts still witness their success, importance, and benefit. He also praised the blessed efforts exerted by Dr Abdulhakeem Al-Waer in activating the cooperation that achieved significant developmental results; he affirmed that this cooperation would grow in the upcoming phase, which will meet both organisations’ expectations.

     For his part, Dr Al-Waer expressed his admiration for the activities conducted by ACSAD in Syria and the Arab world, especially in the latest phase. He showed undivided attention to cooperating with ACSAD in many fields and benefiting from its practical, research and scientific experiences, which proved their feasibility in various areas it works in; since ACSAD organisation is a pilot, one that contributes effectively to sustainable agricultural development in the Arab region.

     Furthermore, he praised the crucial role the ACSAD organisation plays in achieving food and water security at the same level it succeeded in its practical and scientific performance, the high trust it gained and the reverend status it reached in various work fields, especially under the light of severe climate changes and water scarcity.
