The ACSAD’s Director-General and the Head of Arab Beekeepers Union / Discussions /
The Director-General of the Arab Centre for the Studies of Arid Zones and Drylands, His Excellency, Dr Nasr Edin Obaid, and the Head of Arab Beekeepers Union, Mr Fathi Al-Bahairy, have discussed this during their meeting today at ACSAD’s headquarters, the topics of the common interest and cooperation affairs and the ways t develop and enhance them.
Dr Obaid has expressed the ACSAD organization’s constant readiness to place all its potential scientific and research experiences in the service of the Arab Beekeepers Union’s programs and projects to meet its expectations and plans in various areas.
Dr Obaid praised the Arab Beekeepers Union’s role in the bees industry in the Arab region and the implementation of many projects for bee breeding to produce excellent honey and serve the beekeepers.
He has also emphasized the importance of bee breeding in the Arab Countries and its role in the development of Arab agriculture development due to its economic income for the bee production areas. He clarified that bee breeding is one of the small productive projects spreading in the dry areas that depend on natural pasture and unique plants, which produce excellent and high-quality honey. This significant economic activity contributes to achieving the rural families’ stability, supporting the youth, and improving their income, reflecting increasingly on agricultural production in the Arab region.
He has explained that ACSAD, through its implementation of several projects in the field of biodiversity in most Arab countries, contributes to sharing and developing experiences and communication among the Arab countries in the area of evaluation and inventory of capabilities and natural resources. Moreover, support bee pastures with the pastoral plants that ACSAD spreads them, determine the impact of climate changes on the bee distribution in the Arab region, and utilize bee pollination to plant varieties essential for biodiversity. in addition to work on developing scientific research areas and protecting domestic bees, gaining their production, developing competencies, adopting modern technologies and quality in the field of bee breeding, and benefiting from the comparative advantage of each Arab country, as well as supporting the cooperation with the international organizations and bodies working in the bee breeding sector.
In his turn, the head of the Arab Beekeepers Union has expressed his appreciation for the ACSAD Organization’s efforts and workers, the Director-General, experts, and researchers, emphasizing that this meeting would contribute to upgrading the cooperation relations between the Union and the Organization to the best levels.
He has also praised the critical role of ACSAD in achieving Arab food and water security and the high trust it has gained in all its work areas, especially in the light of the severe climate changes and water scarcity.
At the end of the meeting, several researchers and scientists in the Arab Centre gave various presentations about the Centre’s activities and events based on the Arab Centre’s role in protecting and maintaining biodiversity. In addition to a presentation on the integrated management project of rainfall areas in Matruh Province, climate changes in the Arab region, and its impact on the development of the bee industry.
