The ACSAD’s Director-General and the Head of Syrian Arab Red Crescent organisation / Discussion
His Excellency, the Director-General of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Drylands ACSAD, Dr Nasr Edin Obaid and the Head of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Organization, Eng Khaled Hobobati, have discussed the cooperation affairs between the two sides and the ways to enhance them in various areas. During his meeting with Eng Khaled Hoboubati at the SARC headquarters, today; Dr Obaid provided a presentation on ACSAD and its work fields in Syria and the Arab countries, and the most important activities in the area of plant production such as generating new varieties of wheat and barley tolerated to drought and diseases and that are of high productivity, in addition to the fruitful trees.
In water resources, several projects have been implemented in the field of rainwater harvesting, studies of surface and groundwater, and improving the breeds of goat and sheep, semen straws and artificial insemination, and so forth in the field of animal production.
Dr Obaid shed light on ACSAD’s implementations of the livelihood and emergency support projects in Syria, wherein it implemented about twenty relief and developmental projects in the past ten years. Also, assistance has been provided to more than 50000 rural families in different Syrian districts. They had been supplied with animal-plant production input like improved grains, vegetables, industrial equipment, fertilisers, fodder, pesticides, and training the beneficiaries to establish income-generating projects.
In his turn, the Head of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent explained the organisation’s activities in Syria and what it serves the poor Syrian families. He said:” We have many development projects and future programs all over the Arab world, especially in these severe conditions and unjust blockade that Syria is going through.
He also confirmed that the Syrian Arab Red Crescent would be one of the motivations in activating the economy to be a pillar for sustainable economic development and an advanced movement in reconstruction and building, showing his readiness to cooperate constructively with ACSAD organisation, particularly in the field of helping rural people and improving their livelihood level.
