ACSAD Organization and Hamah University /cooperation Agreement.
The Arab center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Drylands and Hamah University, which is located in Hamah city in the middle of the Syrian Arab Republic, signed an agreement to enhance the scientific and technical cooperation between them, conducting specialized scientific research and studies, and field applications that achieve the optimal investment of the natural resources.
The agreement was signed by ACSAD General-Director, Dr. Nasr Edin Obaid, and the University of Hama, represented by its President, Dr. Mohammad Ziyad Sultan, at the University’s headquarters today and by the delegations of both parties.
The Convention provides for cooperation between the two sides to preserve and improve animal and plant genotypes suitable for drylands, develop models of integrated agricultural production systems( plant and animal) of different agricultural environments, and the development of organic agriculture.
It also provides for cooperation in the use of biotechnologies in artificial insemination, embryo transfer, and in-vitro fertilization in the field of plant and animal DNA, land degradation monitoring, rehabilitation of degraded environmental areas, soil studies, animal health cooperation, epidemiological and joint disease investigation, and prevention methods.
The Convention stressed the need to support postgraduate students in their “masters and doctorates,” to complete their theses, which their topics are agreed upon between the two parties in scientific and technical consultation, in ACSAD fields of, activities, and research. Contributing to supporting research and studies by providing the laboratory, field, information, and office supplies needed for those research; the joint organization of scientific meetings and training courses aimed to strengthening and training national and Arab cadres in the areas of joint work and the exchange of all publications issued by both parties.
In a statement following the signing of the Convention, Dr. Nasr Edin Obaid stressed that the Convention was an expression of constructive cooperation relations between the ACSAD Organization, the Ministry of Higher Education, and the University of Hamah in various fields of common interest. In the belief of the importance of such cooperation and its continuous development and the need for coordination and cooperation among Arab scientific research institutions aimed to develop agricultural scientific research.
Dr.Obaid expressed ACSAD’s readiness for more cooperation with professors and researchers in all universities in the country in order to serve ACSAD’s goals in the sustainable agricultural development processes in Syria and the Arab countries. He stressed that ACSAD was adopting this vision and methodology with universities and research centers to a large extent in this current stage and future.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed Ziad Sultan said that the signing of the Convention is a new start of cooperation between the two sides and a natural consequence of the special status enjoyed by the ACSAD organization, particularly in the recent period in the Arab world.
He added, “We hope from this agreement will provide further fruitful cooperation in various fields that ACSAD is concerned in to promote the scientific, research and agricultural sector, as it has proved to be highly efficient in all fields it works in.
