A workshop on “The Impact of Climate changes on the spreading of animal diseases and the future visions.” at ACSAD headquarters.
Under the patronage of the Director-General of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Drylands (ACSAD), Dr. Nasr Edin Obaid; the technical actions of the workshop on” The Impact of Climate changes on the spreading of animal diseases and the future visions.” were concluded recently via video conference. Its negative effects on the agricultural sector and livestock precisely, under what we are suffering from environmental and climate changes.
His Excellency, Dr. Obaid, confirmed, in a speech through his patronage for the workshop’s actions, the importance of uniting the efforts to adapt to these changes, developing the policies to mitigate their effects and their results in the sustainable development process in its all sectors, taking into account the conservation of the livestock and improvement its genetic strains in the small ruminants, and the productivity of pastoral agricultural crops.
At the end of its works, the workshop recommended conducting studies on the impact of climate change on agricultural animals’ health and productivity indicators. The establishment of an observatory for the detection of epidemic and transboundary diseases and the exchange of information among the Arab countries in order to limit their spread (an early warning system), preserve local animal breeds resisting disease and develop modern animal production systems commensurate with these changes in the countries of the region.
It also called for developing the systems and policies for the impact of climate change on agricultural animals, management the natural resource sustainably alongside biodiversity conservation in its two sectors ( animal and plant), Pastures restoration, providing veterinarian services, applying the rainwater harvesting technologies, developing the untraditional resources to obtain freshwater, activating animal and agricultural extension role. Pay more attention to inserting the medicinal plant in animal disease treatment to get healthy products. Moreover, creating an online platform for specialists from Arab countries to track climate change and its effects on the livestock sector.
Relevant experts from ACSAD presented the workshop’s presentations in the field of expected climate changes in the Arab region and their impact on natural resources and animal products. The presentations also addressed the role of the Arab Centre in mitigating such impacts in the livestock sector. With the participation of 90 experts from 13 Arab countries and the representatives of international and Arab organizations.
The participants expressed their great appreciation to ACSAD’s Director-General, Dr. Nasr Edin Obaid, for his patronage of this workshop and his guidance, which was positively reflected in the discussion process and its recommendations.
