Al-Raqqa Research Station

Site and climate:

 Al-Raqqa research station is located in the northern east region of the Syrian Arab Republic within the administrative borders of Al-Raqqa governorate, with an area of (950 dunums).The station is characterized by a hot climate in summer and a cold one in winter, with a rainfall average of 150-350 mm annually.

Establishment:

Al-Raqqa research station was established in the year 2009.

It is divided into two sites:

  • First site: It is located in the northern west side of Al-Raqqa city in the area of Al-Ansar farm. It is 32 km away from Al-Raqqa, with an area of 550 dunums and a heavily clay soil.
  • Second site: It is located in the southern side of Al-Raqqa city at the banks of the Euphrates river, in the area of the training site. It is 10 km away from Al-Raqqa, with an area of 400 dunums and a light sandy soil.

Objective:

Conduct studies and researches on crop productivity improvement, measurement of cereal crop lines and varieties’ tolerance towards the different types of stresses, and development of workers’ scientific and applied capacities in the field of improved seeds propagation.

Infrastructure:

  • Lifted concrete irrigation canals to irrigate all fields.
  • Covered drainage network and open drains.
  • Administrative and training offices, and storing warehouses.
  • All the necessary equipment and supplies to implement the station’s activities.
