Al-Ghab Research Station

Site

It is located in the village of Al-Sahria, about 6 km away from the north of Apamea and 25 km away from Al-Sqeilbya town in the east of Al-Ghab plain; from which it is separated by high mountainous range that protects it from the western winds. It has an estimated area of 200 dunums.

Establishment:

It was established in the year 2009.

Objective:

Develop new alternative sources instead of conventional fodders and set up the base of sustainable development in the rainfed cultivation lands and irrigated lands that are excluded from investment  by utilizing multi-purpose timber trees and bushes.

Infrastructure:

  • Nine fields.
  • One greenhouse, three wells, irrigation basins and sprinkle-irrigation network for all fields.
  • Administrative buildings and a guesthouse for visitors.
  • Agricultural service roads network.
  • Field equipment, machines and supplies.

Activities:

  • Conduct researches and studies on multi-purpose timber trees.
  • Propagate and distribute these species among Arab countries.
  • As the station is still under establishment, the necessary arrangements are taken to provide inputs for implementing additional activities.
